Detailed description
Tapestry "The Captive Unicorn", red version
The seven Flemish unicorn tapestries exhibited in the Metropolitan Cloisters, New York are among the most beautiful and outstanding works of the late Middle Ages, 1495-1505. "The Captive Unicorn" is a medieval symbol of a happy marriage: the unicorn could easily escape if it wanted to. The chain that attaches it to the tree of life is delicate, and the fence is rather protection than a barrier. But it is obviously happy where it is...
The hand-woven original can be found in the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
Made of 80% cotton, 15% viscose and 5% polyester in a firm tapestry quality with a rod pocket. Size 118 x 88 cm (h/w). Red version.
