Detailed description
Picture "Heyne Reading Room at Göttingen", unframed
Libraries are the subject that the painter Hannes Möller has been working on intensively since 2007. Famous collections such as the Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel, the Stiftsbibliothek in St. Gallen and the Bibliothèque Humaniste in Sélestat, France, were some of the inspiring stops on the way to the books.
Each library is unique due to its holdings, history, architecture or size. Special characteristics such as colours, light, smell, and dust give it its very own, typical, sometimes mysterious expression. This is what Hannes Möller addresses in this picture. Without ever staging anything, he processes what he finds and is on the trail of the library's individual face.
The present sheet was created after a stay of the artist in the historic Heyne reading room of the university library in Göttingen.
Mixed media. Format 55 x 74,8 cm. Paper size 69 x 89 cm. Edition of 99 copies, numbered and signed. Unframed.
